Full course description
Join us as we take a deep dive into the play A Raisin in the Sun and explore the theme of dreams, race, and choices. We will read about a black family's experiences in South Chicago during the 1950's. After the death of their father, the Walters are left with a $10,000 life insurance check and an opportunity to escape from poverty. We will examine what tools the author uses to create an thoughtful reading experience, as well as refine our own critical reading skills to better understand complex texts. This course will also draw on outside texts (poems, informational articles, excerpts) and videos to provide context and depth around this play. "When the world gets ugly enough enough, a woman will do anything for her family." Enrollment in this course will result in $75 being deducted from the enrolled student's Sage Oak Instructional Fund account. Small materials fee may also apply. Please see MASTER SCHEDULE for class day/time. VLA students may only enroll in Monday classes. Enrollment: PLA FORM / VLA FORM
